Box Score GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. - Metro State's baseball team fell 4-1 to Colorado State-Pueblo on Thursday in the first round of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference tournament in Grand Junction, Colo. The Roadrunners fell to 20-26 overall on the year, while CSUP improved to 29-19. Metro State will face the loser of No. 2 Colorado Mesa and Colorado Mines at noon on Friday in the double-elimination tournament.
CSU-Pueblo scored three runs in the top of the first and that was all it needed.
Patrick Gojan (Highlands Ranch, Colo./Mountain Vista H.S.) turned in a strong outing for the Roadrunners despite the rough first inning. He held the ThunderWolves scoreless over the next six innings before allowing a run to score with nobody out in the eighth.
Tanner Roth (Arvada, Colo./Ralston Valley H.S.) pitched the rest of the eighth and did not allow a run.
Gojan and Roth were outdueled by Jeremiah Struble, who allowed six hits and one run in a nine-inning complete game. He struck out six.
Andrew Paust (Parker, Colo./Ponderosa H.S.) walked to lead off the third and scored MSU Denver's only run on a two-out single by
Jeff Levett (Parker, Colo./Chaparral H.S.).
Alex Schrupp (Parker, Colo./Regis Jesuit H.S.) and
Danny Miller (Denver/Denver Christian H.S.) each had two hits for the Roadrunners, who stranded leadoff doubles by Schrupp in the second and
Mitch Gibbons (Franktown, Colo./Ponderosa H.S.) in the eighth.
