Baseball: Hammett fires nine-inning shutout in split with CSU-Pueblo

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 DENVER - Nick Hammett (Broomfield, Colo./Broomfield H.S.) threw a complete-game shutout in Game One as Metro State split with Colorado State-Pueblo at home on Friday, winning 10-0 before a 5-2 setback at Auraria Field. The Roadrunners are now 2-4 overall, while CSU-Pueblo is 5-7 overall. It was the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference opening day for both teams.

Hammett threw all nine innings, scattering three hits and striking out three.

Gavin Purvis (Albuquerque, N.M./Cibola H.S.), who went 4-for-8 between the two games, drove in four runs, including two on a first-inning double. He also had a two-run sacrifice fly on a play that was initially ruled a double in the third inning and was changed to a fly out after discussion.

Mitch Gibbons (Franktown, Colo./Ponderosa H.S.) went 2-for-5 with five runs batted in, blasting a three-run home run in the fifth and a two-run triple in the eighth.

Reilly Mau (Longmont, Colo./Longmont H.S.) went 5-for-7 in the two games, including a three-hit performance in Game Two. Purvis drove in two runs in the second game.

The two teams are scheduled to play a doubleheader at Auraria Field on Saturday at 11 a.m.
