Box Score 2 DENVER - Metro State dropped two games on Sunday, falling 5-4 to Western New Mexico and 8-6 to Regis at home. The Roadrunners dropped to 12-6 overall and 8-5 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.
Metro State gave up four runs in the top of the fourth against the Mustangs and trailed 5-1 after the top of the fifth. MSU Denver responded with two in the bottom of the fifth with four straight hits, including doubles from
Kelsey Tillery (Windsor, Colo./Windsor H.S.) and
Aubree Maul (Fort Collins, Colo./Rocky Mountain H.S.). But they left runners on second and third to end the inning.
In the sixth, the Roadrunners loaded the bases with nobody out and the top of the order coming to bat, but they managed just one run on a one-out single to center by
Dani Sandel (Omaha, Neb./Westside H.S.).
Cassidy Smith (Loveland, Colo./Loveland H.S.) suffered the loss, but only gave up two earned runs in six innings.
Regis scored three unearned runs in the top of the first in the second game. A two-out double by Tillery followed by a single from
Kaylynn Harmon (Erie, Colo./Erie H.S.) provided the Roadrunners with a run in the bottom of the first.
A leadoff home run by
Mary Towner (Arvada, Colo./Ralston Valley H.S.) in the fourth led to a two-run inning as the Roadrunners tied the game. They took a 4-3 lead in the fifth on a base hit by
Britney Thomas (Cheyenne, Wyo./East H.S.).
The Rangers scored three times in the sixth, but a two-run double by Towner in the bottom of the inning was all the Roadrunners could score.
Metro State will play at Black Hills State next weekend.
