Box Score 2 DENVER - Darryl Baca (Loveland, Colo./Loveland H.S.) hit two home runs in Game One, leading Metro State to a split with Colorado Mines at Auraria Field. The Roadrunners took the first game 6-5, but fell 6-2 in Game Two to drop to 4-14 overall and 4-11 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. CSM improved to 8-13 and 6-8 in the RMAC.
Baca was 3-for-4 with three runs batted in and two runs scored in the first game. Trailing 3-1 in the sixth inning, MSU Denver scored three times in the bottom of the inning to lead 4-3. Baca led off with a home run and
Alex Walker (Wheat Ridge, Colo./Wheat Ridge H.S.) delivered a two-run, two-out single for the lead.
The Orediggers struck back with two more in the top of the seventh to regain the lead, but Baca's two-run blast with one out in the bottom of the seventh provided the difference.
Kris Lalk (Lakewood, Colo./Green Mountain H.S.) earned the win in relief, pitching two-thirds of an inning after coming on for
Patrick Gojan (Highlands Ranch, Colo./Mountain Vista H.S.). Gojan blanked Mines for five innings before finishing with four earned runs allowed in 6.1 innings.
Kevin Hand (Highlands Ranch, Colo./ThunderRidge H.S.) earned his first career save with two shutouts innings.
Colorado Mines led 4-1 after the second inning and never looked back as Christian Rooney held Metro State to just three hits in a complete game.
Metro State will play at Regis next weekend.
