Box Score 2 HAYS, Kan. - Metro State split a non-conference doubleheader at Fort Hays State on Tuesday, falling 2-0 in Game 1 on a two-run walk-off home run, before a 6-1 victory in Game 2. The Roadrunners are now 13-7 overall, while the Tigers are 19-12.
The Roadrunners were cruising through a scoreless game behind a strong pitching performance by
Aubree Maul (Fort Collins, Colo./Rocky Mountain H.S.) in Game 1, but Kellsi Olsen belted a two-run home run with one out in the bottom of the seventh to end the game. Maul scattered six hits and one walk. She didn't receive any offensive support as
Colissa Bakovich (Loveland, Colo./Loveland H.S.) tallied the only hit for MSU Denver.
Metro State got another strong pitching performance in Game 2 as
Cassidy Smith (Loveland, Colo./Loveland H.S.) limited the Tigers to six hits in seven innings.
The offense gave her plenty of support early as the Roadrunners scored four times in the second inning on an RBI single by
Chelsea Brew (Colorado Springs/Rampart H.S.) and a two-run double by
Susie Oury (Arvada, Colo./Arvada West H.S.) with two outs.
Maul led off the third with a home run for a 5-0 lead.
Kaylynn Harmon (Erie, Colo./Erie H.S.) drove in an insurance run in the seventh after
Kelsey Tillery (Windsor, Colo./Windsor H.S.) led off with a base hit.
Metro State will play at Washburn (Kan.) on Wednesday.
