Box Score 2 DENVER - Kelsey Tillery (Windsor, Colo./Windsor H.S.) ripped four doubles as Metro State swept Adams State 6-0 and 9-5 in a doubleheader at Auraria Field on Saturday to move ahead of the Grizzlies into second place in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. MSU Denver improved to 16-8 overall and 10-5 in the RMAC, while ASU fell to 16-16 and 14-8.
Tillery was a combined 5-for-7 at the plate with three runs batted in and three runs scored.
Susie Oury (Arvada, Colo./Arvada West H.S.),
Kaylynn Harmon (Erie, Colo./Erie H.S.) and
Chelsea Brew (Colorado Springs/Rampart H.S.) all hit home runs on the day as well.
Aubree Maul (Fort Collins, Colo./Rocky Mountain H.S.) pitched a three-hit shutout in Game One, striking out four and walking one. Oury gave Maul and early lead, leading off the bottom of the first with a home run to left and Tillery gave the Roadrunners a 2-0 lead in the inning with a double to score
Mary Towner (Arvada, Colo./Ralston Valley H.S.).
Metro State poured on four more runs in the third inning. Tillery again had an RBI double and the Roadrunners capped the inning when Tillery scored on a throwing error by the catcher.
MSU Denver dug itself a 4-1 hole in Game Two, but scored four in the bottom of the third to take a 5-4 lead. Towner connected for a two-run double down the left-field line and Tillery drove her in with a single to left.
Tied 5-5 entering the bottom of the fifth, a pair of two-run home runs put Metro State in front for good. Harmon hit a home run to right for a 7-5 lead, scoring Tillery. With two outs, Brew crushed a 2-2 pitch down the left-field line for another home run and a 9-5 lead.
Cassidy Smith (Loveland, Colo./Loveland H.S.), who was shaky early in the the outing, settled down to allow just one baserunner in the final three innings. She gave up three earned runs in seven innings.
The two teams will meet for a doubleheader at 11 a.m. on Sunday.
