Box Score 2 DENVER - Aubree Maul (Fort Collins, Colo./Rocky Mountain H.S.) turned in another strong pitching outing in Game One as Metro State split with Adams State on Sunday, winning 3-2 before a 14-8, 11-inning loss in Game Two at Auraria Field. The Roadrunners are now 17-9 overall and 11-6 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, while ASU is 17-17 and 15-9.
Maul, who blanked the Grizzlies on Saturday, allowed just two runs on five hits in seven innings, while striking out five in Game One. She was a tough-luck loser in Game Two, coming on in relief. She pitched 4.2 scoreless innings in the second game before allowing five runs without recording an out in the 11th inning.
Kelsey Tillery (Windsor, Colo./Windsor H.S.) drove in a run in the first inning of Game One with a base hit and hit a home run in Game Two. MSU Denver's other two runs in Game One came on a squeeze play executed by
Chelsea Brew (Colorado Springs/Rampart H.S.), allowing
Kaylynn Harmon (Erie, Colo./Erie H.S.) to score and
Dani Sandel (Omaha, Neb./Westside H.S.) to come home after Brew was caught in a rundown between first and second.
Mary Towner (Arvada, Colo./Ralston Valley H.S.) provided a three-run home run in the first inning of the second game.
Susie Oury (Arvada, Colo./Arvada West H.S.) led the team with four hits and
Britney Thomas (Cheyenne, Wyo./East H.S.) had three in Game Two.
Despite 16 hits in the game, the Roadrunners left seven runners on base without scoring a run in the final six innings.
Cassidy Smith (Loveland, Colo./Loveland H.S.) gave up three earned runs in six innings.
Metro State plays against UC-Colorado Springs and New Mexico Highlands in Las Vegas, N.M., next weekend.
