Baseball: Bats explode in split at Adams State

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 ALAMOSA, Colo. - Metro State connected for 26 hits in a 17-10 win in Game One, but fell 8-6 in Game Two in a doubleheader at Adams State on Friday. The Roadrunners are now 3-5 overall and 2-2 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. ASU is now 4-11 and 2-3 in the RMAC.

The 26 hits in the first game were the most since 2010 for the Roadrunners as Danny Westerberg (Parker, Colo./Chaparral H.S.) went 5-fo-7 the pace the offense. Darryl Baca (Loveland, Colo./Loveland H.S.) and Danny Miller (Denver/Denver Christian H.S.) each had four hits, while Alex Walker (Wheat Ridge, Colo./Wheat Ridge H.S.) provided three. Eight of the team's nine starters had at least two hits and all nine had at least one hit.

Trailing 6-4 after the fourth inning, Metro Staet scored eight times over the next three innings. Sean Reeves (Arvada, Colo./Ralston Valley H.S.) and Baca each homered in the five-run seventh.

Westerberg and Mitch Gibbons (Franktown, Colo./Ponderosa H.S.) each drove in three runs.

Patrick Gojan (Highlands Ranch, Colo./Mountain Vista H.S.) earned the win in relief, allowing one earned run in four innings.

Reeves' solo home run in the third tied Game Two at 1-1.

ASU led 6-1 after four innings, but a five-run top of the fifth inning tied the game at 6-6.

The Grizzlies pushed two runs across in the sixth for the win.

The two teams are scheduled to meet again tomorrow.
