Box Score GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. - No. 20/13 Colorado Mesa edged Metro State 5-2 on Sunday to complete the four-game sweep in the weekend series over the Roadrunners in Grand Junction, Colo. MSU Denver fell to 10-21 overall and 8-19 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. The Mavericks improved to 20-0 at home this season and 27-8 overall, 21-5 in the RMAC.
Metro State left 13 runners on base after connecting for 13 hits.
Darryl Baca (Loveland, Colo./Loveland H.S.) and
Sean Reeves (Arvada, Colo./Ralston Valley H.S.) each had three hits and
Danny Miller (Denver/Denver Christian H.S.) had two.
The Roadrunners fell behind 3-0 after five innings. They finally pushed a run across in the seventh after a leadoff double by
Zac Baldini (Lakewood, Colo./Green Mountain H.S.) and an RBI single by Westerberg. The inning continued as MSU Denver loaded the bases with nobody out, but a pair of strikeouts and a pop out ended the inning.
Metro State loaded the bases with one out in the eighth, but managed just a sacrifice fly by Westerberg to score Reeves.
For the game, Metro State had the bases loaded three times and scored just one run, coming up just short in the game.
Derek Stimpson (Colorado Springs/Doherty H.S.) pitched a complete game, allowing five runs in eight innings.
The Roadrunners will play at Colorado State-Pueblo next weekend.
