Baseball: Roadrunners drop doubleheader despite strong pitching

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 PUEBLO, Colo. - Metro State fell 4-3 and 3-2 in a doubleheader at Colorado State-Pueblo on Friday, spoiling a pair of strong pitching performances. The Roadrunners fell to 10-24 overall, while CSUP improved to 22-18.

Patrick Gojan (Highlands Ranch, Colo./Mountain Vista H.S.) scattered six hits and three earned runs, pitching all six innings in Game One. But a first-inning error proved to be the difference in the one-run loss.

Kevin Hand (Highlands Ranch, Colo./ThunderRidge H.S.) pitched even better in Game Two, giving up just two earned runs in six innings for another complete game. He also scattered six hits and walked just one, while striking out five. Hand was victimized by one of Metro State's two errors as he allowed an unearned run in the bottom of the sixth.

Zac Baldini (Lakewood, Colo./Green Mountain H.S.) drove in two of Metro State's three runs in a three-run fourth inning with a double to left-center in Game One. He scored the other run after a CSU-Pueblo error.

Danny Miller (Denver/Denver Christian H.S.) provided an RBI single in the second inning of Game Two and Alex Walker (Wheat Ridge, Colo./Wheat Ridge H.S.) drove in Miller with a base hit in the fifth. Sean Reeves (Arvada, Colo./Ralston Valley H.S.) was stranded on third in the sixth after a two-out triple.

The two teams will play a nine-inning game at noon on Saturday in Pueblo.
