Box Score 2 DENVER - Metro State swept Adams State 9-6 and 3-1 on Saturday at Auraria Field to snap a nine-game losing streak. The Roadrunners improved to 12-26 overall, while ASU fell to 14-31.
Darryl Baca (Loveland, Colo./Loveland H.S.) belted a key home run in each game and was 4-for-7 on the day with a double and four runs batted in. His home run in the first game broke a 5-5 tie in the sixth inning and his blast to left field in the second game put the Roadrunners ahead 2-0 in their 3-1 win.
ASU struck first, leading 5-1 after two innings in Game One. The bats came alive in the fifth inning as Metro State tied the game with four runs, keyed by RBI singles from
Reilly Mau (Longmont, Colo./Longmont H.S.),
Sean Reeves (Arvada, Colo./Ralston Valley H.S.) and
Alex Walker (Wheat Ridge, Colo./Wheat Ridge H.S.).
Baca hit a two-run home run to left-center with one out in the sixth to break the tie, sparking another four-run inning.
Zac Baldini (Lakewood, Colo./Green Mountain H.S.) added an RBI double to cap the scoring.
Kris Lalk (Lakewood, Colo./Green Mountain H.S.) earned the win in relief, pitching 3.2 shutout innings and scattering two hits with three strikeouts.
Baca's blast to left field with one out in the third provided MSU Denver with a 2-0 lead. That was all
Kevin Hand (Highlands Ranch, Colo./ThunderRidge H.S.) needed as he shut down the Grizzlies, scattering four hits and striking out four to pitch all seven innings. Mau drove in
Mitch Gibbons (Franktown, Colo./Ponderosa H.S.) in the fifth with a sacrifice fly for an insurance run.
The two teams will play the final game of the series on Sunday at noon at Auraria Field.
