Box Score 2 PUEBLO, Colo. - After waiting five hours to start a softball doubleheader due to rain, Metro State earned a split at Colorado State-Pueblo, falling 3-1 before a 10-6 victory in Game Two on Sunday evening. The Roadrunners finished the regular season 26-14 overall and 20-11 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, placing fourth in the RMAC. CSUP fell out of first place with the loss in the second game, dropping to 26-19 overall and 23-11. Colorado Mesa will host the RMAC tournament beginning on Thursday after edging the ThunderWolves by a fraction in winning percentage.
Aubree Maul (Fort Collins, Colo./Rocky Mountain H.S.) threw a strong outing in Game One for the Roadrunners, but she was out-pitched by Kelli Henry, who held MSU Denver to just three singles in seven innings. Maul scattered eight hits and allowed three runs in the 3-1 loss.
The bats came alive in Game Two as
Chelsea Brew (Colorado Springs/Rampart H.S.) bashed a pair of home runs and Maul hit another. Those were three of Metro State's 14 hits in the game, led by
Britney Thomas (Cheyenne, Wyo./East H.S.) with three.
Kaylynn Harmon (Erie, Colo./Erie H.S.),
Kelsey Tillery (Windsor, Colo./Windsor H.S.),
Mary Towner (Arvada, Colo./Ralston Valley H.S.) and Brew each had two hits as well.
Trailing 1-0 after three, the Roadrunners exploded for six runs in the top of the fourth, highlighted by an RBI double by Towner, Brew's two-run home run to center, and a two-run double by
Colissa Bakovich (Loveland, Colo./Loveland H.S.).
Maul and Brew hit back-to-back home runs in the fifth to stretch to lead to 8-1, and the lead jumped to 10-1 after a two-run double by Tillery in the sixth.
But the ThunderWolves didn't go quietly as they scored three in the sixth and two in the seventh, leaving two runners on base to end the game.
The RMAC tournament bracket will be released either later tonight or on Monday morning.
