GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. - Aubree Maul (Fort Collins, Colo./Rocky Mountain H.S.) allowed just four baserunners as Metro State opened the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference tournament with a 4-1 win over Adams State on Thursday morning in Grand Junction, Colo. The Roadrunners improved to 27-14 overall, while ASU fell to 26-24 overall at the double-elimination tournament. MSU Denver will face the winner of top-seed Colorado Mesa and Fort Lewis at 10:45 a.m. on Friday.
Maul retired the final 13 batters she faced and allowed just one run on four hits, without walking a batter. She also struck out four. After a rough first inning in which she gave up a home run and a double, she limited the Grizzlies to a pair of singles the rest of the way.
Dani Sandel (Omaha, Neb./Westside H.S.) tied the game with a two-out double to left, scoring
Britney Thomas (Cheyenne, Wyo./East H.S.) in the third inning.
Kelsey Tillery (Windsor, Colo./Windsor H.S.) hit a one-out single in the fourth and the Roadrunners took the lead on a base hit by Maul.
They added a pair of insurance runs in the sixth after back-to-back two-out RBI singles by
Katie Deaguero (Arvada, Colo./Pomona H.S.) and
Colissa Bakovich (Loveland, Colo./Loveland H.S.).
