Box Score CANYON, Texas - Metro State trailed 7-0 after two innings as No. 1 West Texas A&M earned a 13-5 win in five innings on Saturday in the second round of the NCAA tournament at Schaeffer Park in Canyon, Texas. The Roadrunners (33-16) drop to the elimination side of the bracket and will face the winner of Texas Woman's University and Midwestern State (Texas) at 6:30 p.m. (CT) tonight. The winner of the game will face WTAMU (53-5) in the South Central Region I championship game on Sunday and will have to beat the host team twice to advance.
The Lady Buffs scored six runs in the bottom of second inning, drawing four walks and a hit batter in the frame to lead 7-0.
MSU Denver responded with four runs in the top of the third.
Katie Deaguero (Arvada, Colo./Pomona H.S.) led off with a single and
Colissa Bakovich (Loveland, Colo./Loveland H.S.) followed with a walk. After a ground out moved the runners to second and third base,
Dani Sandel (Omaha, Neb./Westside H.S.) drew a walk to load the bases.
Kelsey Tillery (Windsor, Colo./Windsor H.S.) drilled a single to left field to get the Roadrunners on the scoreboard.
Mary Towner (Arvada, Colo./Ralston Valley H.S.) then walked to force in the second run.
Aubree Maul (Fort Collins, Colo./Rocky Mountain H.S.) delivered a two-out single later in the inning to cap the scoring.
After the Lady Buffs pushed one across in the bottom of the third, Deaguero led off the fourth with her third home run of the season, a line drive over the 16-foot fence down the left-field line.
That was the final run for the Roadrunners. WTAMU scored two in the fourth and three in the fifth to end the game with the mercy rule.
Deaguero led the offense with two hits.
