Box Score 2 LAS VEGAS, N.M. - Metro State's season came to an end on Saturday, falling 11-10 in Game One and 6-2 in Game Two at New Mexico Highlands in a doubleheader in Las Vegas, N.M. The season ended with a 14-29 record, while Highlands improved to 31-18.
The Roadrunners had several opportunities in Game One.
Darryl Baca (Loveland, Colo./Loveland H.S.) delivered a run-scoring single in the first inning, helping them to a 2-0 lead.
That lead stretched to 4-0 in the fourth on an RBI single by
Nick Comito (Lakewood, Colo./Mullen H.S.), highlighting another two-run inning.
After the Cowboys scored five in the bottom of the fourth,
Gavin Purvis (Albuquerque, N.M./Cibola H.S.) ripped a two-run home run to left to put MSU Denver back in front 6-5.

Zac Baldini (Lakewood, Colo./Green Mountain H.S.) hit a sacrifice fly to score
Chris Spirek (Arvada, Colo./Ralston Valley H.S.), tying the game in the seventh inning.
Highlands struck three times in the bottom of the eighth, but again the Roadrunners rallied. Purvis scored on an error to cut the deficit to 10-8. With two outs and runners on first and second,
Marcus Bean (Fort Collins, Colo./Rocky Mountain H.S.) delivered a two-run double to center to tie the game as
Mitch Gibbons (Franktown, Colo./Ponderosa H.S.) and
Reilly Mau (Longmont, Colo./Longmont H.S.) came home.
However, a one-out throwing error allowed the Cowboys to push across the game-winning run in the bottom of the ninth with one out.
Comito, Spirek, Purvis, Mau, Bean and
Jake Thurston (Centennial, Colo./Grandview H.S.) each had two hits. Purvis and Bean each drove in three runs.
In Game Two, the Highlands scored five runs in the second inning, but just two were earned. Metro State scored single runs in the fourth and fifth.
Kevin Hand (Highlands Ranch, Colo./ThunderRidge H.S.) pitched all six innings, allowing just two earned runs. Baldini had two doubles and Mau had two hits.

Sean Reeves (Arvada, Colo./Ralston Valley H.S.) and
Eli Ford (Casper, Wyo./Kelly Walsh H.S.).
