Box Score 2 TUCSON, Ariz. - Chelsea Brew (Colorado Springs/Rampart H.S.) hit two home runs and drove in five runs as Metropolitan State University of Denver won the Silver Division championship at the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Leadoff Classic in Tucson, Arizona, on Sunday. The Roadrunners rallied to defeat Regis University 8-7 in the morning and then topped Fort Lewis 8-4 in the championship game. MSU Denver is now 4-2 on the season.
Brew finished the day 5-for-7 with five runs batted in, three runs scored, two home runs and a double.
MSU Denver led Regis 6-0 after a six-run top-of-the-second inning.
Amanda Taney (Conifer, Colo./Conifer H.S.) had a two-run single,
Mary Towner (Arvada, Colo./Ralston Valley H.S.) doubled in a run and
Kaylynn Harmon (Erie, Colo./Erie H.S.) had an RBI triple in the inning.
Trailing 8-7, Brew belted her first home run of the day to lead off the seventh, tying the game.
Colissa Bakovich (Loveland, Colo./Loveland H.S.) walked with one out and later scored the game-winning run on a single by Towner.
Nicole Larsen (Murrieta, Calif./Bloomington H.S.) pitched 5 1/3 innings of relief, allowing just one earned run, while striking out four to earn the win. She pitched a perfect seventh inning to seal the win.
Against Fort Lewis in the championship, Brew tied the game with a two-run double in the second inning.
Britney Thomas (Cheyenne, Wyo./East H.S.) doubled and scored the go-ahead run in the third inning on a base hit by Harmon.
It was Brew again in the fourth inning, hitting a two-run home run to score
Carissa Terry (Moreno Valley, Calif./Valley View H.S.).
Lani Redmond (Chandler, Ariz./Corona del Sol H.S.) had a two-run double in the fifth and
Susie Oury (Arvada, Colo./Arvada West H.S.) walked and stole second and third base, and then stole home on a double steal with
Sarena Espinoza (Corona, Calif./Corona Centennial H.S.).
Freshman
Kenzie Mattey (Parker, Colo./Ponderosa H.S.) struck out nine to earn her third win of the weekend, pitching all seven innings.
The Roadrunners will head to Texas for five games next weekend.
