Box Score 2 DENVER – The Metropolitan State University of Denver softball team moved to 21-9 after splitting home games on Saturday against conference opponents N.M. Highlands and Black Hills State.
In game one, the Roadrunners faced New Mexico Highlands and fell by a score of 4-3.
Britney Thomas (Cheyenne, Wyo./East H.S.) led the way for MSU Denver with two hits and a run scored.
Susie Oury (Arvada, Colo./Arvada West H.S.) went 1-for-2, scoring a run and driving in another. MSU Denver led 3-2 entering the top of the sixth inning before Katelyn Bates hit a two-run single to give N.M. Highlands the lead for good.
The Roadrunners rebounded in game two, beating Black Hills State 10-1. The Roadrunners were led by
Sarena Espinoza (Corona, Calif./Corona Centennial H.S.). Espinoza went 3-for-3 with two doubles and four runs batted in.
Annika Anderson (Loveland, Colo./Loveland H.S.) also had a strong game going 1-for-3 with two runs scored and two runs batted in.
Cassidy Smith (Loveland, Colo./Loveland H.S.) improved to 8-5 on the season after allowing only one run on three hits over five innings.
The Roadrunners are back in action Sunday, facing Black Hills State at 10 a.m. and N.M. Highlands at 2 p.m. at The Regency Athletic Complex at MSU Denver.
