Box Score 2 SAN ANTONIO, Texas - No. 18 Metropolitan State University of Denver fell twice on Sunday to No. 7 St. Mary's (Texas), losing 5-3 and 8-2 to be eliminated from the NCAA Tournament. The Roadrunners end their season at 42-16, while STMU improved to 46-10 to advance to the South Central Super Regional. The 42 wins are the second-most in school history.
In Game One, the Rattlers scored three times in the third and twice in the fourth to lead 5-0.
Susie Oury (Arvada, Colo./Arvada West H.S.) drilled a three-run home run in the seventh, but it was too little, too late.
Cassidy Smith (Loveland, Colo./Loveland H.S.) provided 3 2/3 shutout innings of relief.
Mary Towner (Arvada, Colo./Ralston Valley H.S.) had two hits.
In Game Two, MSU Denver jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first on a two-run home run to left by
Sarena Espinoza (Corona, Calif./Corona Centennial H.S.). The Rattlers answered back with one in the first and one in the second to tie the game.
They added an unearned run in the fifth inning to take a 3-2 lead before breaking the game open with five runs.
Britney Thomas (Cheyenne, Wyo./East H.S.) led the Roadrunners with two hits in her final collegiate game. She, along with Oury, Towner,
Chelsea Brew (Colorado Springs/Rampart H.S.),
Kaylynn Harmon (Erie, Colo./Erie H.S.) and
Amanda Taney (Conifer, Colo./Conifer H.S.) will all graduate this season.
