On This Date (April 12, 2016): Wilhoite Wins Title at Maverick Spring Invitational

She follows up a first-round 76 with an even-par 72 to earn victory

DENVER – On this date in 2016, Cha Cha Wilhoite followed up her first-round 76 with an even-par 72 to win the individual title at the Maverick Spring Invitational. As a team, the Roadrunners' women's golf team finished second in a field of 10.
 
That performance highlights our latest installment of "On This Date in Roadrunners History," which looks back at the biggest accomplishments in MSU Denver athletics on that particular calendar day.

Also On This Date, April 12:
 
2019 – MSU Denver's Matt Malkin recorded his third five-hit game of the 2019 season but was thrown out at home plate on Draven Adame's single on the final play of a 9-8 loss to Dixie State.
 
2015 – Freshman Trent Maloney blasted the first pitch of the bottom of the ninth inning of the left-center field fence to give MSU Denver a walk-off 8-7 victory over Adams State for its ninth straight win.
 
2015 – Kenzie Mattey struck out eight of the first 11 batters she faced and finished with a one-hit shutout and 10 strikeouts in an 8-0, five-inning win over UCCS to complete a doubleheader sweep. The 25th-ranked Roadrunners won the opening game 9-1, also in five innings.
 
2014 – Nick Kadlec set a still-standing school record in the 3,000 meters with a time of 8 minutes, 41.63 seconds at the Colorado Invitational, finishing first among collegiate competitors and second overall. Kadlec broke his own record of 8:45.55. Belle Kiper broke her own school records in the long jump and triple jump, with efforts of 5.53 meters (18 feet, 1 ¾ inches) and 11.63 meters (38-2), respectively, while Jon Clarke broke the 30-year-old school mark in the 100 meters with a time of 10.67 seconds.
 
2003 – MSU Denver shut out both Colorado College (9-0) and UCCS (9-0) in men's tennis. Ranked No. 35 in the country, the Roadrunners finished 21-2 overall and won the regional championship after winning the RMAC regular-season and tournament titles. Magnus Bohman went 15-5 was 15-5 in No. 1 singles play for the Roadrunners.
 
2002 – The MSU Denver men's tennis team, ranked 40th nationally, dropped CSU-Pueblo 8-1 to improve to 3-0 in RMAC play. The Roadrunners were 22-5 overall, won the league at 7-0 and were eventually regional champions after winning the RMAC Tournament. Carlos Delgado was 16-0 in singles, playing mostly at No. 2, where he was 9-0.
 
1998 – MSU Denver swept a baseball doubleheader at RMAC foe Fort Hays State (Kan.), 4-0 and 5-3, as part of a season in which the Roadrunners were 33-20 overall and 20-6 in league games. Kevin Watson was 7-2 with a 3.38 ERA to help lead the pitching staff.
 
1989 – MSU Denver swept Fort Lewis 5-0 and 11-0 in softball, with the second game shortened to five innings due to the mercy rule. Diana Pacheco (16-8, 1.72 ERA) and Brenda Losinski (8-6, 2.19) led the pitching staff for the 26-16 Roadrunners.
 
1988 – The MSU Denver softball team swept a doubleheader from Adams State, winning the opening game 3-0 before earning a 4-1, nine-inning victory in the nightcap. Nancy Kogle hit .410 with 11 triples, eight homers and 44 RBIs for the 24-21 Roadrunners in 1988.
