DENVER – There are five teams tied for fourth place in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference table in men's soccer.
One win (or, three points) behind them all is MSU Denver.
But the Roadrunners, coming off a win over one of those teams tied at 3-3 for nine points (Westminster), play three of the others during their final four regular-season games. And the other game is against Adams State, which is tied for last place in the RMAC.
"We're all right there," MSU Denver coach
Nick Kirchhof said. "The RMAC is super competitive. Everybody is beating each other. The win on Sunday (against Westminster) put us back in the mix. We've got everything ahead of us. If we can get a couple of wins in these last four games we can be in a good spot and hopefully extend our season."
All the teams are fighting for a top-six RMAC finish that would lead to a trip to the RMAC Tournament and the final two weeks of the regular season should be fascinating since there are almost as many teams tied for fourth (five) than there are not tied for fourth (six).
The next step for MSU Denver (5-8-1, 2-4) is the 3 p.m. meeting at Adams State (1-12, 0-6) on Friday.
"They work really hard and really do have a good team," Kirchhof said. "Early in the season they played some of the same teams we did and had close games, just like we did. They're capable of beating anybody."
After that it's a 2:30 p.m. meeting Sunday at Fort Lewis (6-6-1, 3-3).
Kirchhof will be the prodigal son returning for that game – he won a national championship while playing for the Skyhawks in his college days.
"It should be a fun one," Kirchhof said. "I know how tough that place is to play. I'm sure I'm going to be heckled – and hopefully it's more towards me and not our guys. I still have friends there. I'm looking forward to the trip."
