DENVER – MSU Denver softball coach
Annie Van Wetzinga has announced the schedule for the 2022 season.
The list includes 15 non-conference games ahead of the 42-game Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference regular season.
The season starts with a home doubleheader against Fort Hays State (Kan.) beginning at noon on Feb. 5 at the Assembly Athletic Complex.
"We're really excited about the schedule we have for the 2022 season," Van Wetzinga said. "I think our non-conference games will definitely help us prepare for RMAC play, which will be especially important with such a young team. They will be challenged early but that's what this group wants and needs. They're more than capable of competing at a high level."
The non-conference slate includes five games at the Desert Stinger Tournament in Tucson, Ariz., from Feb. 11 through 13.
"The Desert Stinger is particularly exciting," Van Wetzinga said. "We will see five different teams that includes some of the top competition from the West Coast conferences."
RMAC play starts Feb. 26 against defending league champion Colorado Mesa. MSU Denver placed second in the RMAC last season.
"I'm really excited for this team to hit this field and compete this spring," Van Wetzinga said. "They've been working hard and improving. It will be a fun season!"
