TOPEKA, Kan. – Another meet, another dominating performance by MSU Denver's
Erin Norton.
Norton set MSU Denver's school record in the 3,000 meters, running a first-place and facility-record time of 9 minutes, 36.27 seconds, the seventh-fastest time in NCAA Division II this season, highlighting the Roadrunners' efforts at the Ichabod Invitational.
Norton topped her previous best in the event by 39 seconds and broke the previous school-record time of 9:53.97 set by Janelle Lincks in a ninth-place finish at nationals on March 15, 2014.
Norton's mark was one of nine personal bests run by Roadrunners athletes.
"Overall, it was a really good day," MSU Denver coach
Janis Christopher said. "Our mid-distance kids ran very well."
Norton also ran a personal-best mile time of 4:57.09, finishing fifth, and is now the fourth-fastest to ever run the event for MSU Denver.
Bekah Moenning finished third in the 800 meters in a personal-best 2:15.88, just 1.78 seconds off a provisional qualifying mark and only .27 seconds off Breanna Hemming's school record.
Brandon Bodner finished fifth in the men's 800 in 1:54.01, putting him tied for sixth among performers in the event all-time at MSU Denver.
In the women's 5,000,
Vanessa Kort,
Anna Swanson, and
Stephanie Carrasco all placed in the top 10. Kort finished seventh with a time of 17:59.72, Swanson was eighth in 18:01.36 and Carrasco was ninth in 18:08.29. They now rank fourth, fifth and sixth in school history.
Blaize Holland finished seventh in the men's 200 in 21.81, just trailing his personal best of 21.77 which he set earlier this season.
"These Roadrunners are fighters," Christopher said. "They simply do not know the word quit. As long as they have an opportunity to be on a track racing, you can count on one thing. They will give everything they have to represent themselves, their teammates and MSU Denver in the best way possible."
