GUNNISON, Colo. — MSU Denver's field athletes closed out the regular season Saturday afternoon at the RMAC Last Chance Qualifier in Gunnison, delivering a historic performance and building momentum heading into next weekend's conference championships.
Brandon Simpson once again rewrote the record book in the men's weight throw, launching a mark of 15.47 meters to finish sixth overall. The throw shattered his own school record by more than two feet and marked the third time this season he has broken the program standard.
Simpson also became the first Roadrunner in program history to eclipse the 15-meter mark in the event, continuing a breakthrough indoor campaign. He added an eighth-place finish in the men's shot put with a toss of 13.97 meters, showcasing his versatility across throwing events.
Andre Henry competed alongside Simpson in both throwing events, placing 13th in the weight throw (12.57 meters) and 10th in the shot put (13.63 meters), adding valuable depth for the Roadrunners in the field events.
In the men's high jump, Isaiah Williams cleared 1.90 meters to claim a runner-up finish, continuing his consistent presence near the top of the podium this season. On the women's side, Breauna Sorensen posted a mark of 5.10 meters in the long jump to round out the Roadrunners' performances on the day.
With the final tune-up complete, MSU Denver now turns its attention back to Gunnison, where the Roadrunners will compete at the RMAC Indoor Track and Field Championships next weekend, carrying confidence and record-setting momentum into the conference meet.
