SPEARFISH, S.D. – Nick Nowlen finished fourth and
Brandon Bodner placed sixth as MSU Denver scored eight points in the 800 meters to highlight the Roadrunners' performance at the first day of the RMAC Indoor Championships for track & field.
Nowlen, the 2019 RMAC Indoor Track Co-Freshman of the Year, continued his late-season surge, leading the first heat from start to finish with a good enough time – a season-best 1 minute, 56.23 seconds – to place fourth overall when the higher-seeded second heat finished.
Bodner was hopeful of perhaps earning the 800 title, but fate had other ideas.
"Heat Two was a crazy one, with lots of lead changes and even one person who fell," MSU Denver coach
Janis Christopher said. "Brandon got caught behind the one who fell and had to close a 25-meter gap over the last 250 meters to finish sixth."
Bodner ran 1:56.34.
In the men's 400,
Ethan Loper qualified third for the final in 50.25, matching a personal-best.
Blaize Holland cruised into the final in the 60 with a prelim time of 6.88.
On the women's side, both
Kamryn Scott (1:00.07) and
Allyssa Romero (1:00.12) qualified for the final in the 400.
"Our athletes ran really hard, and every one of them fought all the way to the finish of their races," Christopher said. "You can't ask for more than that."
