@RoadrunnerSB: Van Wetzinga Adds Carter to Coaching Staff

All-American starred as a hitter and pitcher during her playing career

DENVER – MSU Denver coach Annie Van Wetzinga has announced that former All-American Molly Carter has joined the Roadrunners' softball coaching staff as an assistant.

"I'm very excited with the addition of Molly to the coaching staff," Van Wetzinga said. "Coach Carter's primary duties will be to lead our pitching staff but with her background she will be able to assist in many other areas on the field.

"She excelled as a position player and hitter as well as a pitcher during her playing days, so she can help many of our student-athletes on and off the field."

Carter spent two seasons as an assistant at Columbia College (Mo.) after a four-year playing career for the Cougars. She led Columbia to two NAIA World Series appearances, where the Cougars finished as the runner-up in 2018 after placing fourth in 2017.

Carter was a three-time All-American and was also a two-time American Midwest Conference Player of the Year and the 2016 AMC Freshman of the Year.

An infielder and pitcher, Carter compiled a career batting average of .435 with 45 homers and 241 RBIs in 195 career games. She was the NAIA national leader in RBIs in 2017 with 87. As a pitcher, she made 35 career appearances and was 21-6 with a 1.94 ERA and 93 strikeouts in 180 2/3 innings.

She was a three-time all-state selection at Hickman High School in Columbia, Mo.

"I know she will come in and be an awesome addition and resource for our program, and most importantly for our student-athletes," Van Wetzinga said.

Carter graduated with a degree in sports management, marketing, and business administration and earned a master's in teaching.
