@MSUDenverXCTF: Roadrunners Post Quality Times at Potts Invitational

Early excellence encouraging event for MSU Denver

BOULDER, Colo. – MSU Denver turned in top times in just its second indoor meet of the season as part of a highly-encouraging day Saturday at the Potts Invitational.

A seven-athlete contingent combined to post some of the top performances in program history in MSU Denver's first competition since the Dec. 11 season opener. The bulk of the indoor season starts next week.

"Any time we can start the season hitting times that we finished the year with the prior indoor season, it's a good thing," MSU Denver coach Janis Christopher said. "We feel very good about where we are right now and can't wait to see what the rest of the season will hold for these athletes as well as the rest of their teammates."

Ethan Loper ran to personal-best times in both the 60 meters and 200 meters, Allyssa Romero ran to a personal-best in the 400, and Erin Norton hit a provisional qualifying mark in the 3,000 as quality performances were on display throughout the lineup.

Loper's sixth-place time in the 200 of 21.90 moved him into fourth individually in program history in the event, and overall it ranks as the eighth-best time in program history. With the conversion for altitude and track size to 21.97, Loper ranks 26th in Division II so far this season. Loper also finished 10th in the 60 in 7.02, putting him tied for seventh in Roadrunners history individually.

Romero, meanwhile, already second in MSU Denver history in the 400, improved her best time by finishing sixth in 59.77. Romero now has the second-, third- and fifth-best times in that event as a Roadrunner. Romero just missed a personal-best time the 200, finishing in 26.68.

Also running the 200 and 400 for the Roadrunners was Kamryn Scott, and she was outstanding as well, posting an eighth-place 400 time of 1:00.18 that ranks 10th among all times in program history and is just off her seventh-best personal-record time that has her at fourth individually in the event. Scott also just missed a PR in the 200, finishing in 26.97.

Norton, the school record holder in the 3,000, finished within reach of her top time in the event while finishing sixth in 10:13.74. That's the eighth-fastest 3,000 ever run by a Roadrunner – Norton, besides her school record, also has the second- and fifth-best times.

Norton's time, with the conversion to 9:56.22, has qualified provisionally for the NCAA Division II Indoor Championships and is the 15th-best in the country this season.

"She will still have to run a bit faster to hit a time that will get her into the championships, but it is a great start," Christopher said.

MSU Denver also had three solid finishes in the men's 800, as Brandon Bodner was third in 1:55.36, Tommy Gilfillan was fifth in 1:55.72 (just .02 off his personal best), and Nick Nowlen was seventh in 1:59.83. With conversions, Bodner (1:54.62) and Gilfillan (1:54.98) rank 33rd and 35th, respectively, in Division II this season, while Nowlen's time from the December meet has him 23rd.
