COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Another day, another school record for
Maya Ries.
Ries' program-best time in the 60-meter hurdles was one of the highlights Saturday for the MSU Denver track & field program on the second and final day of the Mountain Lion Open.
Ethan Loper won the men's 400 meters with a solid 50.85-second clocking, both of the Roadrunners' 4x400 relay teams were victorious, and
PJ Guidry set another personal best in the triple jump with one of the program's best-ever efforts.
"Day Two was another great day for our team," MSU Denver coach
Janis Christopher said. "They went out and focused on race plans as well as supporting and sacrificing for one another. We are coming together as a team that sees the value in competing hard for one another.
"(Associate) Coach (Amanda) Rego and I couldn't be more proud of the way this team competed today, of how they made the most of the opportunity to compete, and the reward was a whole lot of season bests and personal-best performances."
Ries is now three-for-three in breaking the school record in the 60 hurdles. This time she finished in 9.09, good for second place. Before Ries began her college career last week, the school record had been 9.78.
In the women's 4x400,
Allyssa Romero staked the Roadrunners to a lead with a strong opening leg, then
Kamryn Scott's 59.47-second leg set up the rest of the race for
Audrynn Street and
Raygen Ivins to close it out. The finishing time of 4:07.56 is the eighth-best ever run in MSU Denver history.
Also for the women,
Jaivion Lattimore was third in the 60 in 7.92 seconds, Street was third in the 800 in 2:24.16 and
Vanessa Kort was fourth in the 3,000 in 11:03.04.
Guirdry's third-place triple jump of 13.75 meters (45 feet, 1 ½ inches), is a personal best that has been surpassed only by former RMAC champion Robert Carlson at MSU Denver, and it ranks fifth overall at MSU Denver.
Yonatan Kefle was fourth in the 3,000 meters in 9:13.91.
The 4x400 of Loper,
Brandon Bodner,
Nick Nowlen and
Tommy Gilfillan ran to a winning time of 3:26.86.
