ORLANDO, Fla. – Four MSU Denver women's soccer players have been named to the CSC (formerly CoSIDA) Academic All-District team.
Defender
Kate Giordano was named to the team for the third consecutive season, while midfielder
Riley Ostler, forward
Jaimy Sawaged and defender
Elli Zimmer made the list for the first time. Ostler, Sawaged and Zimmer were MSU Denver's co-captains.
Prior to this season, district sports information directors voted on nominated players to select College Sports Communicators' 15-player All-District 6 team. Beginning this season, players with a 3.50 cumulative grade point average are eligible to be included on the all-district team and advance to the All-America ballot.
Giordano, a right back, is a two-time Academic All-RMAC selection who led the team with 1,630 minutes played while helping the Roadrunners post 12 shutouts and a league-best 0.64 goals-against average. The Roadrunners allowed only 13 goals in 20 games after yielding 12 in 18 games last season. A five-time selection to the MSU Denver Athletic Director's Honor Roll, Giordano carries a 3.85 cumulative GPA while majoring in biology (with a minor in psychology).
Ostler is a four-time selection to the Academic All-RMAC honor roll, and a two-time D2ADA Academic Achievement Award winner. The three-year starter had career totals of one goal and five assists, and the midfielder was one of the keys to the RMAC's best defense. Ostler is an eight-time member of the MSU Denver Athletic Director's Honor Roll, and she has a 3.88 GPA while majoring in nursing.
Sawaged earned D2CCA All-South Central Region second team, All-RMAC first team and Academic All-RMAC first team honors this season. Previously she was named to the Academic All-RMAC honor roll three times. She was third in RMAC in goals (nine), goals per game (0.45) and points (21), and tied for first in the RMAC with five game-winning goals – which is 13
th-best in Division II this season. She has career totals of 14 goals and six assists. A seven-time selection to MSU Denver's Athletic Director's Honor Roll, she has a cumulative 3.69 GPA while majoring in exercise science.
Zimmer, a center back, is also a D2CCA All-South Central Region second team selection, and she was named All-RMAC first team this season after earning second-team honors last season. She was also on the Academic All-RMAC first team. She was a three-time RMAC Defensive Player of the Week, including twice this season. Known for finishing with headers off corner kicks, she scored eight career goals, including four this season. She was the anchor of RMAC's best defense, and was third on team with 1,357 minutes played. A seven-time member of the MSU Denver Athletic Director's Honor Roll, she has a cumulative GPA of 3.90 while majoring in sport management with a minor in public relations.
