ALLENDALE, Mich. – What could
Nick Nowlen do for an encore?
Well, on Saturday he showed that he wasn't content with Friday's historic 800 meters race at the GVSU Big Meet, so he was even better on Day Two.
Nowlen won Saturday's event in 1 minute, 51.46 seconds, which is not only a provisional qualifying mark for the NCAA Division II Indoor Championships that ranks 24
th nationally, it also improved his standing as the third-fastest individual in MSU Denver history in the 800 (behind All-American Shawn Lindbom and national champion Anthony Luna) and it was also the fifth-best time ever by a Roadrunner (Lindbom and Luna ran better twice each).
Also in the 800,
Brandon Bodner improved his personal best with a 1:53.09 to finish third and move up to fourth individually at MSU Denver, behind the aforementioned trio. And
Tommy Gilfillan also ran an outstanding 1:54.86 to place sixth.
Then the three 800 runners were joined by
Ethan Loper on the 4x400 relay which posted a first-place time of 3:21.92 that is the third-fastest ever run by an MSU Denver team in the event.
For the women,
Kamryn Scott finished 11
th in the 400 with a personal-best 58.68 that makes her MSU Denver's third-fastest ever in the event –
Allyssa Romero set the school record (57.95) on Friday, breaking the 1984 mark of 58.40 by Rosalind Martin. Romero ran the 400 again Saturday and matched Scott's 58.68 for 12
th place.
Jaivion Lattimore ran to a solid eighth-place finish in the 60 in 7.96.
Finally for the men, Loper was ninth in the 200 (22.29),
Brant Killmon was third in the triple jump (13.34 meters) and seventh in the long jump (6.51).
Anthony Martinez was ninth in the 60 hurdles (8.69).
"It was another great day with these Roadrunners," MSU Denver coach
Janis Christopher said. "Once again they came together as a team, supported one another, and the result was some outstanding performances. I couldn't be more proud of these kids and their competitive spirit."
