GOLDEN, Colo. – Nick Nowlen flew to a top-10 national time in the 800 meters and true freshman
Anthony Martinez ran to a provisional qualifying time in the 60-meter hurdles on Saturday to lead MSU Denver at the Mines Twilight.
Nowlen continued his late-season surge and won an 800 race for the third time this season with a 1 minute, 53.05-second clocking. With the conversion for altitude and track size to 1:49.79, Nowlen's time ranks sixth in NCAA Division II this season and figures to be good enough to earn him his first trip to Indoor Nationals since 2019.
Martinez meanwhile, already the second-best hurdler in program history, moved into the top 10 with Darius Reed circa 2013 with his second-place time of 8.18. With the conversion to 8.20, Martinez ranks tied for 39
th in Division II this season.
Also Saturday,
Abi Read won the women's 5,000 in 18:32.23, making her MSU Denver's seventh-fastest individual ever in that event.
Kamryn Scott became MSU Denver's sixth-fastest competitor in the 60, finishing second in 7.98.
And
Summer Jarolmen ran her second-best time ever in the 60 hurdles, a 9.85 clocking that ranks eighth on the program's list. Jarolmen is still the Roadrunners' third-best performer ever in the event.
Also of note, for the men
Justin McDaniel was second in the mile (4:32.84) and
Noel Lopez was third in the 5,000 (15:34.40), while for the women
Alliyah Molina was fourth in the mile (5:30.28).
MSU Denver competes next weekend at the RMAC Championships.
