Box Score DENVER – Regis jumped out to a 9-1 lead after three innings and defeated MSU Denver 15-7 on Sunday, earning a series win in the four-game series.
MSU Denver (28-18) remains two games out of first place in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference at 17-11 as Colorado Mesa was once again upset by Colorado Christian to drop to 19-9 with four games left in the regular season.
However, Regis (27-22-1) improved to 20-12 in the RMAC by winning three of four and jumped to second place in the league. MSU Denver is tied for third with CSU-Pueblo at 17-11 (CSU-Pueblo won the regular-season series).
CSU-Pueblo plays four games next weekend at Colorado Mesa, while MSU Denver is home for four against Colorado Christian. Regis' regular season has concluded.
"We'll just have to come back tomorrow and get ready for next weekend," MSU Denver coach
Ryan Strain said. 'This (RMAC) tournament is going to be wide open. Anybody can beat anybody. It was a wild weekend."
Zach Schuler was 3-for-4 with two homers and three RBIs for MSU Denver, while
Cody Schultz,
Caleb Albaugh,
Bill Ralston,
Ross Smith and
Tanner Garner all had two hits.
Albaugh homered, and Schultz extended his hitting streak to 14 games.
"Regis' starting pitcher, he's pretty good, but we hit well against him," Strain said. "We just couldn't get a couple of hits with two outs. We kept swinging. It's frustrating. Our guys battle. They play hard. They don't give in."
