COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Maya Ries and
Jaivion Lattimore shattered their own school records in the 60-meter hurdles and 60-meter dash, respectively, and
Allyssa Romero ran the program's second-best times ever in both the 400 and 200 meters, winning the one event and placing second in the other, to lead MSU Denver on Saturday at the UCCS Invitational.
Ries, whose previous best in the 60 hurdles was the 8.96 seconds she ran last week, zipped to the finish in 8.88, which was good for third overall (and second among Division II competitors). With the conversion for altitude to 8.92, she was .07 away from a provisional qualifying time for NCAA Division II nationals and now ranks 40th in Division II this season.
Lattimore, whose previous best was 7.77 seconds, finished second in the final in a blistering 7.71. With the conversion for altitude to 7.75, Lattimore ranks 69th in Division II so far this season.
Romero, of course, is the program's record holder in both events, but she continues to follow up with historic efforts. She won the 400 in 58.08 seconds and was second in the 200 in 25.59, just behind her personal bests of 57.95 (last year) and 25.42 (last week). Romero's 400, with the conversion for altitude and track size to 57.53, is .50 seconds off a provisional qualifying mark and ranks 36th in the country. Her 200 time, converted to 25.34, is 59th nationally.
Meanwhile,
Claire Hummel's personal-best 60 meters time of 7.78 was good for fourth in the final and improves her standing as the Roadrunners' second-fastest individual ever in the event. Hummel ran 7.79 in prelims, while Lattimore qualified for the final in was fifth in 7.83. Hummel and Lattimore were both in the 200 as well, finishing fifth (26.67) and third (26.45), respectively.
Grace Solarin, MSU Denver's first-ever participant in the women's weight throw, easily eclipsed her program record in the event with an effort of 13.60 meters (44 feet, 7 ½ inches) for 11
th place, and in the shot put placed 13
th at 10.63 (34-10 ½).
Another throws record came from
Brandon Simpson, MSU Denver's first-ever men's shot putter, who improved upon his career best with a 13.23-meter (43-5) toss that was good for 13
th place. Simpson was also 11
th in the weight throw at 12.55 (41-2 ¼).
In the women's triple jump,
Teagan Garand became the Roadrunners' fifth-best ever in the event with her indoor personal best of 10.06 (33- ¼), which was good for eighth.
Ries – who owns the program's 13 best times in the 60 hurdles – ran what had been her third-fastest time of 9.03 to place fourth in prelims.
Another women's standout was
Abi Read, who was third while running a personal best in the mile (5:34.83) and sixth in the 3,000 meters (11:04.45).
For the men, one highlight was the 2-3-4 finish in the mile by
Nick Nowlen (4:24.55),
Noel Lopez (4:24.76) and
JJ Ramey (4:24.82). Lopez and Ramey also fared well in the 3,000 meters, finish second (9:07.86) and third (9:08.05), respectively.
Ethan Loper was second in the 200 (22.94),
Anthony Martinez was sixth in the 60 hurdles in 8.49 after qualifying fourth in 8.43, and
Ty Schauer was sixth while running a personal best in the 800 (2:00.77).
