COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – For the second straight week, MSU Denver has the RMAC Offensive Player of the Week for men's basketball, as
Brayden Maldonado was named the award's recipient on Monday.
Maldonado hit the game-winning 3-pointer with 1.5 seconds to go in the 80-79 road upset of No. 4 West Texas A&M, capping a career-best 27-point effort, and followed it up with 21 points in the 75-71, overtime upset of No. 16 Fort Hays State.
While averaging 24.0 points, 4.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 3.0 steals, Maldonado shot 60.0 percent from the field (18 of 30), 47.1 from 3-point range (8 of 17) and made all four of his free throws.
Against West Texas A&M, Maldonado was 10 of 17 from the field, including 6 of 11 from 3, while making a career-best six from long distance. Against Fort Hays State, he was 8 of 13 from the field overall, and he scored 14 points after halftime.
For the season, Maldonado is second in the RMAC with 20.8 points per game, first in steals (3.0 per game), seventh in assists (3.5 per game), eighth in field goal percentage at 56.3 (27 of 48), ninth in 3-pointers per game (2.5) and 10th in 3-point percentage at 43.5 (10 of 23).
