DENVER – The Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference announced Monday afternoon that MSU Denver Roadrunners forward Brian Unachukwu has been named RMAC Defensive Player of the Week for the second time this season.
Unachukwu anchored the Roadrunners defensively in a competitive weekend slate that featured a narrow loss to Colorado State University Pueblo before MSU Denver bounced back with a Senior Day victory over Colorado Christian University on Saturday.
The big man was a force around the rim, recording eight total blocks across the two games — including five swats in the win over Colorado Christian. His interior presence altered countless additional shots and played a pivotal role in helping the Roadrunners secure the weekend split.
In addition to his rim protection, Unachukwu delivered a strong all-around stat line. He totaled 16 points, 12 rebounds, one assist and one steal over the two contests, providing a steady two-way presence on both ends of the floor.
For the season, Unachukwu continues to set the standard defensively in the conference. He leads the RMAC with 57 total blocks and is averaging 2.2 blocks per game, consistently ranking among the league's most disruptive defenders.
The weekly honor marks his second Defensive Player of the Week selection this year, further cementing his role as the backbone of the Roadrunners' defense as MSU Denver pushes toward the final stretch of conference play.
