DENVER – Anyone wondering if Colorado Christian's RMAC softball dynasty had died off after last season quickly learned something in 2024.
"They've lost a lot of pieces, but they still have a lot of them still there, too," MSU Denver coach
Annie Van Wetzinga said. "If they've fallen off, it hasn't been by much."
MSU Denver wraps up the regular season with doubleheaders at Colorado Christian at noon Thursday and 11 a.m. Friday.
The sixth-ranked Cougars, 45-4 overall, 37-3 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference and winners of 24 straight games, will be looking to secure another regular-season league title – they are currently tied with Colorado Mesa at 37-3.
"Obviously they're good," Van Wetzinga said. "They're a complete team. Hopefully we can use the momentum from this weekend to our advantage next weekend."
CCU's last loss came March 10, when Colorado School of Mines posted a 2-0 victory to secure a four-game series split. MSU Denver (38-14, 31-9 for third place) just won three of four against the same Orediggers team.
The Roadrunners are locked in to the No. 3 seed for the RMAC Tournament, scheduled for May 2 through 4 at the home of the league's regular-season champion.
Last year that was at Colorado Christian, where MSU Denver threw a major scare into the hosts in the winner's bracket final before falling victim to a 6-5 comeback defeat.
The Cougars have now won eight straight and 13 of 14 in the series.
"We're excited," catcher
Genevieve Bower said. "They beat us all four (regular-season) games last year and we lost in the RMAC (Tournament) on their field, so we're excited to go out and get another chance."
