@MSUDenverMSOC: Matsumoto Tabbed with RMAC's Prestigious Summit Award

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — MSU Denver junior midfielder Charlie Matsumoto added another major honor to his remarkable season on Saturday, being named the 2025 RMAC Summit Award winner ahead of the RMAC Men's Soccer Championship match.

The Summit Award is presented annually to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative GPA among those competing at the championship finals site — making it one of the most distinguished academic honors in the conference. Matsumoto, a finance major from Mililani, Hawai'i, owns an exceptional 3.97 GPA, the highest of any player participating in this year's RMAC title match.

The recognition adds to a long list of accolades for Matsumoto this season. Earlier in the week, he earned First Team Academic All-RMAC honors while also being selected to the Second Team All-RMAC for his on-field performance.

A mainstay in the midfield, he has started every match for the Roadrunners while logging the fifth-most minutes on the team (1,216). He has contributed two goals on the year — both during RMAC play — and has been a key figure in MSU Denver's ability to control tempo and possession throughout its championship run.

To be eligible, honorees must be at least sophomores, have spent two or more years competing at their institution, appear in at least 20 percent of their team's matches, and be active participants at the championship event.

For Matsumoto and the Roadrunners, the honor arrives amid a historic season. MSU Denver shared the RMAC regular-season crown, earned the program's highest conference finish since 2012, and is competing in its first RMAC Tournament Championship match since 2011.
