DENVER — After anxiously waiting through Sunday night's NCAA Selection Show, MSU Denver officially heard its name called as the final team selected into the South Central Regional of the NCAA Division II Baseball Tournament.
The Roadrunners earned the No. 6 seed in the regional field, marking the program's fourth NCAA Tournament appearance in the last five seasons after finishing the year with a 38-16 overall record.
MSU Denver will once again travel to University of Texas at Tyler for regional play, returning to the same site where the Roadrunners competed during last season's NCAA Tournament. UT Tyler enters the tournament as the No. 2 seed and host of the regional.
The selection capped off another strong campaign for the Roadrunners, who spent much of the season near the top of the RMAC standings and compiled one of the best overall records in the region. MSU Denver advanced to the later rounds of the RMAC Tournament before seeing its conference tournament run come to an end Saturday afternoon against Colorado School of Mines.
Despite the late loss in Grand Junction, the Roadrunners built a postseason résumé strong enough to secure an at-large berth into the national tournament field.
Now, the Roadrunners will attempt to make another postseason push in Tyler, Texas, with regional play set to begin later this week. Tournament matchups and game times are expected to be announced following the release of the complete regional bracket Sunday night.
