Women's Soccer Eliminated in Double Overtime

Box Score

GOLDEN, Colo. -
Metro State fell 2-1 at Colorado Mines on Wednesday in the quarterfinals of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Tournament.  It is the first time since 2001 that the Roadrunners have not reached the semifinals of the RMAC Tournament (not including 2003 when the RMAC Tournament was for non-NCAA Tournament qualifiers).

The loss dropped the Roadrunners to 12-5-2, while the Orediggers improved to 11-5-3 this season.

Jessica Stark put Mines ahead just over four minutes into the game, heading Megan Woodworth's corner kick in for the score.

Aleah DeGeneres (Littleton, Colo./Chatfield H.S.) scored Metro State's only goal of the game unassisted in the 64th minute.  She corralled a missed clearance by the CSM defense and dribbled around defenders for the goal.

Each team had chances in the final 10 minutes of regulation, but neither could convert as each goalkeeper stopped shots during that time.

Metro State was unable to get a shot attempt in either overtime period and goalkeeper Sarah Tanous (Colorado Springs, Colo./Air Academy H.S.) stopped a shot in each period before Anna Evans scored in the box in the 109th minute after receiving a header from Woodworth.

Tanous made a career-high eight saves for the Roadrunners.  Metro State was outshot 18-10 in the game, including 10-4 in shots on goal.

Metro State will find out its opponent in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Monday.
