Metro State Falls in Record Breaking Loss at Mesa State

Box Score

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. -
Metro State fell 33-7 in baseball--not football--at Mesa State on Sunday in non-conference action.  The loss set a record for most runs allowed in Metro State history.  The Roadrunners fell to 5-5 overall this season, while the Mavericks improved to 4-6.

The previous record for most runs allowed came in a 31-9 loss at Northern Colorado on April 8, 2003.

There were bright spots on Sunday for the Roadrunners, as David Fox (Lakewood, Colo./Faith Christian H.S.) was 2-for-2 at the plate with a home run and a double.  Chris Redding (Northglenn, Colo./Northglenn H.S.), Marcel Dominguez (Carlsbad, N.M./Carlsbad H.S.), David Kaplan (Colorado Springs, Colo./Doherty H.S.), Jordan Stouffer (Fort Collins, Colo./Rocky Mountain H.S.), Eric Lopez (Hayden, Ariz./Hayden H.S.) and Everett Altman (Wheat Ridge, Colo./Wheat Ridge H.S.) each had a base hit as well.

Starter Taylor Huyett (Broomfield, Colo./Legacy H.S.) failed to get out of the first inning, allowing 12 runs (seven earned) in two-thirds of an inning.  Mesa State sent 17 batters to the plate in the first inning.  Reliever Nate Van Bibber (Littleton, Colo./Douglas County H.S.) didn't fare much better, surrendering 14 runs in 4.1 innings.

Mesa State pounded out 33 hits, five doubles and three home runs in the game.

The Roadrunners will host Colorado Christian on Friday for a nine-inning game beginning at 3 p.m.
