Game 1 Box Score

Game 2 Box Score

HAYS, Kan. -
The Metro State baseball team dropped two non-conference games at Fort Hays State on Tuesday, falling 6-5 in game one and 20-8 in game two. The Roadrunners dropped to 10-12 overall with the losses, while the Tigers improved to 15-5.

Game One
Metro State sent its No. 3 starter against FHSU's ace, but the Roadrunners held their own. Metro State took a 1-0 lead in the first with the aid of an error, but the Tigers responded with single runs in the second and third and three in the fourth to chase Roadrunners starter Tony Weber (Elizabeth, Colo./Elizabeth H.S.) after 3.1 innings. Reliever Sean Walter (Wiggins, Colo./Wiggins H.S.) came in and allowed just one run in 2.2 innings, keeping Metro State in the game.

Metro State scored another in the sixth after a three-base error on the FHSU right fielder to start the inning. Trailing 6-2 in the top of the seventh, Kevin Coughlin (Golden, Colo./Golden H.S.) led off with a home run to right field. After two quick outs, the Roadrunners put together a rally. Zach Krueger (Holyoke, Colo./Holyoke H.S.) doubled to center and David Fox (Lakewood, Colo./Faith Christian H.S.) hit a triple to center, cutting the lead to 6-4. After a single by Bradshaw Perry (Aurora, Colo./Cherokee Trail H.S.) scored Fox, Stouffer also singled to put runners on first and second. But Cody Henry (Thornton, Colo./Legacy H.S.) grounded back to the mound to end the game as the rally came up just short.

Metro State scored two unearned runs in six innings off Matt Augustine, who has twice been named Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association Pitcher of the Week already this season. He was also the Hawaii Collegiate Baseball League Pitcher of the Year in the all-star summer league.

Game Two
The Roadrunners jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first on a two-run home run by Fox. However, Roadrunner starter Perry surrendered a three-run home run to Kyle Stacken in the bottom of the inning to give the Tigers a 4-2 lead.

But after a scoreless second for each pitcher, Metro State added five runs to take a 7-4 lead. Krueger ripped an RBI single through the left side to score Tommy Frikken (Arvada, Colo./Pomona H.S.) and Fox then connected on an RBI double to center to score Chris Redding (Northglenn, Colo./Northglenn H.S.) to tie the game. Stouffer gave the Roadrunners the lead, hitting a three-run home run to left-center as the first five batters reached base to send FHSU to its bullpen. The Tigers called on lefthander Kyle Oestreicher and he quickly shut the door on the Roadrunners, striking out the next three batters. Oestreicher continued for four shutout innings of relief with eight strikeouts and just two hits allowed.

Fort Hays State struck for two in the bottom of the third, five in the fourth, six in the fifth and three in the sixth to lead 20-7.

Fox and Stouffer were each 2-for-3 with three RBIs and a double and a home run in game two. Krueger went 3-for-4 with a home run to lead off the seventh.

Metro State will travel to Regis for a four-game series this weekend, beginning on Friday at 3 p.m.
