DENVER -
Metro State scored four runs in the bottom of the first and went on to win 9-5 over Colorado Mines on Friday at home.  The Roadrunners improved to 25-12 overall and 21-11 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, while CSM fell to 15-26 and 12-19.  The Orediggers, however, had won three straight games entering Friday and eight of their past 10.

Mike Coffey (Highlands Ranch, Colo./ThunderRidge H.S.) ripped a two-run triple in the bottom of the first to right field and scored on a single by Jake Danneffel (Las Vegas, Nev./Bonanza H.S.) as the Roadrunners took the early 4-0 lead.

Each team scored in the second.  Jordan Stouffer (Fort Collins, Colo./Rocky Mountain H.S.) drove in David Kaplan (Colorado Springs, Colo./Doherty H.S.) for Metro State's run.

The Roadrunners added another in the fourth after a one-out triple by Zach Krueger (Holyoke, Colo./Holyoke H.S.).

Mines crept back into the game with three runs in the top of the fifth, cutting the lead to 6-4.

Kaplan successfully laid down a squeeze bunt in the sixth to push the lead to 7-4, scoring Ty Jacobs (Denver/Cherokee Trail H.S.) on the play.

Metro State scored two more in the seventh on RBI singles by Jacobs and Krueger.  The Orediggers scored one in the eighth.

Bradshaw Perry (Aurora, Colo./Cherokee Trail H.S.) allowed just two earned runs in seven innings, striking out five and walking just one.  He improved to 7-1 on the season.  He is two wins away from tying the single season record at Metro State.

Krueger led the offense, going 3-for-4.  David Fox (Lakewood, Colo./Faith Christian H.S.), Stouffer and Ty Hancock (Winslow, Ariz./Winslow H.S.) each had two hits.  Fox extended his hitting streak to seven games.

Both teams will play a doubleheader at noon on Saturday at Metro State.
