Box Score GOLDEN, Colo. - Brandi Farley (Colorado Springs/Pine Creek H.S.) scored with just under 29 minutes left in the second half to give Metro State a 2-1 win at Colorado Mines on Friday night in Golden. The win snapped a four-game winless streak in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference games dating back to last season, the longest conference winless streak for the Roadrunners since 2001. The win also gave Metro its second straight win in Golden against the Orediggers after winning 1-0 in overtime in 2011. That win was the first-ever in the sixth meeting in Golden between the two teams. The Roadrunners are also now 3-6-0 in their past nine games on artificial turf.
Friday's victory improved MSU to 4-2-1 overall and 1-1-1 in the RMAC, while Mines fell to 4-3-0 and 1-2-0.
Tess Hagenlock (Bozeman, Mont./Bozeman H.S.) gave Metro a 1-0 lead just over six minutes into the game, firing a shot from 25 yards away on the left wing.
The Orediggers evened the score just 11 minutes later as Anna Evans scored.
That score remained in the defensive battle until Farley's winner at 61:32. Her pass from
Abby Rolph (Golden, Colo./Golden H.S.) gave her a 1-on-1 situation at the top of the box and she beat her defender to her left to fire the low shot. With an assist on Hagenlock's goal, Farley notched a career-high three points in the game.
Jordan Simkins (Bozeman, Mont./Bozeman H.S.) made three saves in the game to preserve the win.
Mines nearly tied the game in the final 10 seconds, earning a free kick from the top of the box. But the initial shot was blocked and the rebound was stopped by a diving Simkins with less than five seconds on the clock.
The Orediggers outshot MSU 11-5 in the game and MSU's only two shots on goal resulted in goals.
Metro State will look to build a winning streak on Sunday at home against Colorado State-Pueblo at noon.
