Women's Soccer: Rolph scores twice to lift Metro State over UCCS 2-0

Box Score DENVER- Metro State defeated UC-Colorado Springs 2-0 on Sunday afternoon behind two goals from Abby Rolph (Golden, Colo./Golden H.S.). The win increased the Roadrunners' record to 11-0-3 overall and 9-0-1 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.  The loss dropped the Mountain Lions to 8-4-0 overall and 5-4-0 in the RMAC.

Metro State controlled the pace of the game in the first half as it held the ball on UCCS' side of the half for most of the half.  Throughout the first half, Metro State outshot UCCS 10-3 but was unable to score a goal as the first half ended tied 0-0.

Coming out in the second half, things started to get a little more physical as UCCS picked up two yellow cards in the first 20 minutes of the second half.

Metro State used this increased physicality to its advantage as Brandi Farley (Colorado Springs/Pine Creek H.S.) earned a penalty kick for the Roadrunners in the 64th minute.  Farley earned the penalty kick after the Mountain Lions committed an unnecessary foul inside the box.

Rolph took the penalty kick for the Roadrunners and scored in the bottom left corner of the goal for her fifth goal of the season.

Less than two minutes later Rolph scored her second goal of the game after she shot the ball and deflected it off the defender into the back of the net.  The goal was Rolph's sixth goal of the season.

Metro State controlled the ball for the rest of the game as it was able to run out the clock without letting UCCS get on the board.

Karisa Fernandez (Westminster, Colo./Standley Lake H.S.) earned the win for the Roadrunners to increase her record to 7-0-0 on the season.  Fernandez earned two saves in the victory and had her first shutout of the season in the victory.

Overall for the game, Metro State outshot UCCS 23-9 including 9-2 with shots on goal.

Metro State will be back in action on Friday when it travels to Durango to take on Fort Lewis.
