LAS VEGAS, N.M. - Four different players scored in the first half as Metro State won 4-1 at New Mexico Highlands on Sunday. The win improved the Roadrunners to 5-0-3 overall and 3-0-1 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, while NMHU fell to 4-2-2 overall.
Karisa Price (Gilbert, Ariz./Highland H.S.) scored on Carly Nelson (Wheat Ridge, Colo./Wheat Ridge H.S.)'s cross from inside the 6-yard goalie box at 4:31 and it was all Roadrunners from there. Jordan Post (Spearfish, S.D./Spearfish H.S.) picked up a loose ball and scored inside the box at 27:18. Just over a minute later, Becca Medina (Denver, Colo./Heritage H.S.) converted a penalty kick for a 3-0 lead. Alexie Marr (Longmont, Colo./Longmont H.S.) scored the final goal of the first half 10 minutes later at 38:54. Post sent in a cross, which was headed by Nicole Pollack (Englewood, Colo./Englewood H.S.) to Marr for the goal.
The Cowgirls scored once in the second half as MSU Denver goalkeeper Karisa Fernandez (Westminster, Colo./Standley Lake H.S.) made four saves in her first career start.
The Roadrunners were actually outshot 15-10 despite the lopsided score.
Metro State hosts Colorado State-Pueblo at 1 p.m. on Friday.
