DENVER – It was nine years ago today, May 1, 2011, that Jennessa Tesone hit her sixth home run of the four-game series and her second of the game in the sixth inning of the second game to lift MSU Denver to its third straight RMAC regular season softball title and a split of a doubleheader at Nebraska-Kearney, following up a 5-4 loss with a 10-7 victory.
Tesone, who was 9-for-16 with six homers and 12 RBIs in the series, was later named National Player of the Week.
That performance highlights our latest installment of "On This Date in Roadrunners History," which looks back at the biggest accomplishments in MSU Denver athletics on that particular calendar day.

2015 – The No. 18 MSU Denver softball team won two elimination games while hosting the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Tournament, defeating Colorado Mesa 5-0 and Western New Mexico 6-5 to improve to 41-13. The Roadrunners scored five second-inning runs to support Kenzie Mattey's five-hit shutout in the opener, then built a 5-0 lead after two innings before holding off Western New Mexico.
2015 – MSU Denver posted two last at-bat wins to sweep a baseball doubleheader from Colorado Christian 4-3 and 3-2. In the nine-inning first game, Jake Thurston tied the game in the top of the ninth on the back end of a double steal before Mitch Gibbons drove in the go-ahead run with a single. In the seven-inning nightcap, Thurston's run-scoring single drove in the go-ahead run.
2015 – MSU Denver's men's 4x100-meter relay team of Jon Clarke, Robert Carlson, Alejandro Montoya and Julian Dulaney set the school record with a time of 41.60 seconds, finishing second in the preliminaries at the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Championships.
2014 – Aubree Maul overcame a first-inning solo homer and drove in the go-ahead run in the fourth inning, pitching a complete-game four-hitter to lead the MSU Denver softball team to a 4-1 win over Adams State in the first round of the RMAC Tournament.
2012 – Lucio Cangiano's victory at No. 1 singles evened the dual at 3-3, but No. 35 Nebraska-Kearney won the next two singles matches to clinch a 5-3 victory over No. 42 MSU Denver in the first round of the NCAA Division II Tournament in men's tennis.
2011 – Sean Reeves capped a nine-run bottom of the ninth inning rally with a walk-off, three-run homer as the MSU Denver baseball team overcame an 8-2 deficit to beat Colorado School of Mines 11-8 and complete a four-game series sweep. Reeves entered the game as a pinch-hitter earlier in the inning and reached on an error. David Fox also hit a three-run homer in the inning. Evan Claus tied it 8-8 with an RBI single. The Roadrunners extended their winning streak to six games.
2010 – Shawn Lindbom ran an NCAA Division II Outdoor Championships provisional qualifying time of 1 minute, 51.51 seconds in the men's 800 meters at the Oregon Relays.
2010 – The No. 5 MSU Denver softball team broke the regular-season RMAC wins record in a 7-1, 9-0 sweep at Chadron State that put the Roadrunners at 35-2 in league play, breaking the previous record of 34. Sara Rusch hit three homers for the day, including two while driving in five runs in the second game to support a six-inning, four-hit, seven-strikeout shutout by Brittany Moss. Christie Robinson won her 10
th straight start in the opener.
2010 – Cody Henry and Tommy Frikken both had three hits and three RBIs and Nick Columbia also drove in three as MSU Denver knocked off visiting Nos. 12 and 6 New Mexico Highlands 11-3 in the second game of a baseball doubleheader. The Roadrunners lost the opener 12-10 in 10 innings despite Henry going 2-for-5 with four RBIs.
2009 – The No. 13 MSU Denver softball team won twice to improve to 3-0 at the RMAC Tournament and move into the championship game. Kellie Nishikida was 4-for-4 with a homer as the Roadrunners won 13-5 against CSU-Pueblo in the first game of the day, then homered again while going 2-for-3 in a 9-4 win over Colorado School of Mines. Christie Robinson won the opener in relief then pitched a complete game against Mines to improve to 24-4.
2004 – Adam Wolfinger was 5-for-7 with two RBIs, and Ricky Fuller had five of his six RBIs in the second game as MSU Denver swept a baseball doubleheader at Nebraska-Kearney, 6-4 and 13-6.
1999 – Bruce Dicker (No. 3 singles) and Oliver Breustedt (No. 5) both won three-set singles matches to clinch MSU Denver's 5-3 victory over Nebraska-Kearney for its first RMAC Tournament championship and trip to the NCAA Division II Tournament in men's tennis. The Roadrunners had beaten CSU-Pueblo 6-2 in the semifinals earlier in the day. Peter Lantz won twice at No. 1 singles and Dicker (who played No. 4 in the semifinals) also won twice.
1998 – MSU Denver lost to Colorado Mesa 7-6 in the opening game, but bounced back to throttle New Mexico Highlands in an elimination game on the first day of baseball's RMAC Tournament. Cory Linteo was 5-for-6 with a homer and three RBIs against the Cowboys, while Matt Jerebker was 4-for-5 with a homer and four RBIs as the Roadrunners improved to 32-19 in the game at SkySox Stadium in Colorado Springs, Colo.
1995 – Danielle Nelson finished second at No. 4 singles at Katie Horvat was second at No. 5 as the MSU Denver women's tennis team finished third in the season-ending, seven-team Colorado Athletic Conference tournament.
1994 – Vince Lucero pitched a seven-inning complete game in the opener, allowing one run on four hits while striking out five, to lead MSU Denver to the first of two 3-1 victories and a sweep of a doubleheader against Denver to wrap up the regular season.
1993 – Martin Coe (No. 2), Arturo Rodriguez (No. 3) and Russ Windham (No. 5) all finished in second in singles, and all three MSU Denver men's tennis doubles tandems (Coe/Rodriguez at No. 1, Jeff Couse/Frank Mora at No. 2 and Lee Major/Jim Keelan at No. 3) also finished second as MSU Denver finished in second place overall at the season-ending Colorado Athletic Conference Tournament.
1993 – Chan Mayber was 4-for-8 with a homer and seven RBIs as MSU Denver swept Denver 5-3 and 8-2 in a baseball doubleheader.
1992 – Andy Dewett, Brendon Peach, Chan Mayber and Pat McCloskey all homered, and Steve Blachly pitched a complete-game, striking out eight, as MSU Denver defeated Denver 13-4 to open a season-ending three-game baseball series.
1988 – Anthony Cortez pitched a seven-inning, four-hit shutout as MSU Denver defeated Northern Colorado 4-0 in the opening game of a season-ending baseball doubleheader.
