@MSUDenverWSOC: Roadrunners Looking to Break Through

After three days off, MSU Denver plays Wednesday at CSU-Pueblo

DENVER – On, then off, then on-again and then moved, the MSU Denver women's soccer game with CSU-Pueblo is set for 6:30 p.m. Wednesday in Pueblo.

Such is life trying to work around heavy snowfall during a spring soccer season.

The Roadrunners had a less-than-preferred three days away from the pitch over the weekend as the Regency Athletic Complex was covered in snow.

"They had some soccer-watching assignments," MSU Denver interim coach Bonnie Young said. "Other than that, it was three days away. That could be good, though. Sometimes it is. But we got some training in (Tuesday), and we'll see how it goes."

MSU Denver and CSU-Pueblo are both 1-1 entering the game, which will be played as a non-conference contest.

MSU Denver plays what will be its home opener Sunday at 11 a.m. against Black Hills State (0-4). It will be the first Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference game for both teams.

The Roadrunners haven't played since a 2-1 overtime win at Colorado Christian on March 7.

"I'm expecting it to be a pretty competitive game," Young said. "Our styles match up pretty well."

Young is hopeful that the Roadrunners' attacking group – which includes players such as Gabriella Gamboa, Annie Rolf (who scored the game-winner), Katy Coats, Arantxa Melendez, Paloma Teran, Luna Garcia and Elisa Dean – will be able to have an impact.

"It's not a high expectation or something we are adding pressure on, but I know they want to have breakthroughs putting pieces together and breaking through in the attacking third," Young said. "They'd like to start scoring goals from the run of play rather than just on set pieces – but we'll take any goal we get, trust me.

"We're looking to create some scoring opportunities for our attacking group."
