GOLDEN, Colo. – Friday was a pretty good day to be
Brant Killmon.
Not only did Killmon break his own MSU Denver school record in the high jump, he also hit the elusive 7-meter mark in the long jump for the first time indoors in his career.
Killmon's exploits were the highlights Friday as a small group of Roadrunners competed at either the Mines Twilight or the Air Force Collegiate Open.
Killmon was at the Mines meet, on his favorite indoor surface.
Competing with only himself in the high jump, he leapt 1.97 meters (6 feet, 5 ½ inches), bettering the mark of 1.95 meters (6-4 ¾) he shared with
Caden Frasl. Killmon was the first to reach 1.95 indoors for the Roadrunners, on Dec. 6, 2019. His 1.97 on Friday puts him ninth in the RMAC this season.
Killmon was second in the long jump with his effort of 7.02 meters (23 feet, ½ inch) as his re-tooled mechanics kicked in just in time to merit qualification for next weekend's Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Championships. Already the second-best performer in the event in program history, Killmon's previous best indoor long jump best was 6.86. His 7.02 is tied for fifth-best in program history (only former RMAC champion Robert Carlson has gone for a better distance), and puts him 13
th in the RMAC this season.
Also of note Friday, at the Air Force Collegiate,
Audrynn Street finished second in the women's 800 meters with a time of 2:24.54, with
Graciela Leal placing sixth in 2:29.20.
Teagan Garand was ninth in the 200 in 27.0.
