BOULDER, Colo. – Allyssa Romero and
Maya Ries both set school records Saturday to lead MSU Denver at the Potts Invitational indoor track & field meet.
Romero ran the 200 meters in 25.42 seconds, good for seventh place – including third among Division II competitors. That broke the school record of 25.76 held since 2014 by Belle Kiper. Not only did Romero shine in the 200, but she also placed fourth in the 400 (first among Division II competitors) in 58.64. It's the third-best time of Romero's career and also ranks third among all performances at MSU Denver – Romero has six of the top seven times, including the school record.
Ries, meanwhile, ran the first sub-9.0 second 60 hurdles time in program history, breaking her own school mark of 9.0 seconds with an 8.96 clocking. That was good for seventh overall and second among Division II competitors. Ries, who ran 9.17 in preliminaries, has the top 11 times in the event in program history.
"We are extremely proud of the way the team competed this weekend," MSU Denver coach
Janis Christopher said. "The hard work they put in this fall and over the winter break while they were on their own is paying off already. They are a dedicated group and we couldn't be more excited to see how much further they can climb."
