@MSUDenverWGOLF: Eye Sees Second Place after Opening Round

Team is eight strokes out of first with two rounds remaining

SOUTH JORDAN, Utah – MSU Denver's Sydney Eye shot a 3-over-par 75 Sunday and is in second place after the opening round of the three-round Wasatch Invitational.

Eye had three birdies and 11 pars in her round, which included shooting 2-under on the back nine of the 6,200-yard Glenmoor Golf Club. She is two strokes behind the leader, Brady Turnquest of Biola (Calif.).

"Syd played awesome golf today," MSU Denver coach Stef Ferguson said. "She was super steady and finished 2-under the last three holes. She was working on some new mental-game stuff that seemed to really help. She has worked so hard and deserves to see this success."

MSU Denver put together a four-player score of 36-over 324 and is ninth in the 11-team field. However, the Roadrunners are only eight strokes out of first in a tightly-bunched field. No other Roadrunner broke 80 on a difficult day.

"As a team we had far too many big numbers," Ferguson said. "The wind was tough, but we still had too many course management errors. We're looking to move up the board the next two rounds."
