SOUTH JORDAN, Utah – The MSU Denver women's golf team improved its four-player score by seven strokes for the second consecutive day on Tuesday and finished eighth at the Wasatch Invitational.
The Roadrunners' round of 22-over par 310 gave them a three-day total of 87-over 951, which was just three strokes out of fifth place. MSU Denver's Tuesday score was the fifth-best in the 11-team field. MSU Denver shot 324 in Sunday's opening round, and followed that with 317 on Monday.
"Today was better overall, but I think this week was disappointing after having such a good event last week," MSU Denver coach Stef Ferguson said. "We got beat by some schools that we shouldn't have, and we just need to do better."
Individually,
Mackenzie Carpenter shot a team-best round over 4-over 76 at the 6,200-yard Glenmoor Golf Club.
Sydney Eye shot 77,
Vaijayanti Bharkhada 78 and
Isabel Botero 79.
For the tournament, Bharkhada finished tied for 13
th at 19-over, Botero tied for 21
st at 22-over, Eye tied for 23
rd at 23-over, and Carpenter tied for 26-over.
MSU Denver plays next at the Proal Invitational in Pueblo, Colo., on Oct. 9 and 10.
